Should I Move Near My Family?

Thousands of people have to decide whether to move near their family, often their parents, in order to take care of them. But how does one decide to do it? Especially when they like where they live, or don’t like where their parents live?

Moving near family is almost always a nice thing to do. However, it’s not always the best decision for you. When it comes to deciding whether to you should move near your family, there are a few factors that you should take into consideration. Here are the factors for deciding whether living near your family is worth it:

  • Family’s health – If your parents are healthy and happy, then there’s not a real need to move close to them. However, if, say, your sister is gravely ill, it makes a lot of sense to be there with her.
  • Location – If you don’t like where your family lives, you should really think hard about whether you want to move there. It’s a tough call. However, to be sure, it’s a selfless but tragic act to move somewhere you don’t want to live for someone else’s benefit.
  • Work – You’ll need to have work where you are. Make sure the new place can support you, so you can support your family.
  • Day-to-day life – Consider how much time you’ll be spending with your family, and what you’ll do when you’re not. Is that the kind of life you’re ready to live?

Pros and Cons of San Jose, CA

San Jose is the leader of the new wave of American cities. It’s big, and sprawling, and rich beyond a midwestern city’s wildest dreams.

San Jose is the city of Silicon Valley, home to many/most/all of your favorite tech companies, like Facebook, Apple and Google. People are flocking to t, because its rents are lower than in nearby Oakland and San Francisco, and it offers more job opportunities. Why, even the San Francisco 49ers are moving here to join in, and the Oakland A’s would love to.

But, as much as San Jose has going for it, the place feels like a big suburb, a city that is growing faster than good culture can keep up with. It’s the classic 21st century western dilemma: growth begets sprawl. Get ready for some traffic!

Enough complaining, though. The best thing to do in San Jose is definitely, definitely to enjoy a sunny day near SJSU’s campus, maybe grab a cup of Philz Coffee, then hit up singlebarrel, the downtown speakeasy known for its clever cocktails.

Pros and Cons of Charlottle, NC

Pros and Cons of Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C. is the pumping, political heart of our fine nation. But much like a heart has its own inner-workings, so too does Washington D.C. The city has one of the best commuter rail systems in the world, and its has thriving music and arts scenes that do not depend on government funding.

Of course, on any given day, you can be slowed up by a protest or two, but that’s just how it is.

Pros and Cons of San Diego, CA

San Diego is a golden place to live. Its beaches are gold with sand; its people are gold with tans; its fish tacos taste like gold might taste; and its real property is as expensive as house made of gold might cost.

Really, San Diego approaches perfection when it comes to climate and natural beauty; however, residents pay a price for living in paradise, especially those who want to view the ocean from their doorstep.

Now, for those who came here looking for a real tip, the best thing to do in San Diego is to hit up Ocean Beach for the day then hop on over to Pizza Port for some pizza and some of its high-end San Diegan beer.

Pros and Cons of Riverside, CA

Riverside is pretty much a part of Los Angeles. Sure, it’s dozens of miles away from the heart of L.A., but the development never stops, and many people commute between the two daily. In some respects, Riverside shares a lot of positives with L.A., like its warm climate and its role in the film industry. However, Riverside is not L.A. in many ways, too; it lacks the city’s glitz, its amenities and its culture. Riverside is really like a massive suburb of L.A., full of strip malls and urban sprawl. This is generally recognized as a bad thing.

Pros and Cons of Phoenix, AZ

In Phoenix, everything boils down to the broiling sun. The winter/spring weather is fantastic, because the sun is kept at just the right burn. However, come summer, the roadways turn into skillets and the once-cool pools become bathwater. The sun affects other things as well. For example, it wouldn’t be nearly as bad if everything wasn’t so spread out, making people either have to drive hot cars or walk miles in 100-degree heat to get to a destination.

Then again, without the sun out so often, Phoenix wouldn’t be a resort/golf/biking/hiking capital.

Now, for those who came here for something specific to do in the sun, here’s a recommendation for you. The best thing to do in Phoenix is to float the Salt River on a hot day, then have someone drive you to downtown Phoenix for a post-float beer at the Lost Leaf. No joke. Do it.
