Pros and Cons of Moving to Philadelphia, PA

I think the pros and cons of Philadelphia are represented well by the city’s famous cheesesteak.  One one hand, the city is very affordable.  However, on the other hand, it has terrible crime and is subject to arbitrary beer laws.

Wait, what?

Cheez whiz.

The Pros and Cons of Moving to Cleveland, OH

Listen, every American city, including Cleveland, is livable.  Even the cities with the worst reputations in the world have good aspects to them, and Cleveland’s own reputation just keeps getting better. For example, Cleveland is fast creating a foody and beer-drinker’s haven on the banks of Lake Erie. That being said, it’s still has a number of neighborhoods that are hurting from its economic struggles in past decades.

Pros and Cons of Moving to Orlando, FL

Ah, the center of Florida, a land of swamps, sinkholes, sweltering heat, stagnant humidity, mosquitos, fire ants, sawgrass, storms and gators. And Orlando.

Sure, Orlando’s surroundings can be, erm, discomforting at times, but at least it’s not cold there. Also, the place is like the world capital for amusement parks, which means plenty of fun, employment, and revenue for local residents and businesses.

The Pros and Cons of Las Vegas, NV

Big city, bright lights, cruel, cruel dice. We all know about Las Vegas, the City of Sin. We know that is the epicenter for gambling, which is both a positive and a negative, but we don’t all know about Las Vegas’ other attributes. For example, did you know that Las Vegas’ cost of living is extremely low? And did you know it can drop below freezing at night?

All right, enough complaining. Here’s a real pro for you: the best thing to do in Las Vegas is find a craps table at New York, New York, slow play $50 into $75 over the course of an hour, and flag the waitress down for either a Manhattan or a root beer whenever you can.

Pros and Cons of New York City, NY

New York (yeah, just New York for this post) is the epitome of the big city. I mean, it’s so big, people get lost in it for decades. When asked about where they’ve been, they often remember taking a trip to New York, then they’re buddy knew of a job opening or something, and then, just, well, is it really 2013 already? I mean, New York is so eccentric that a rabbit-themed bar with but a single line of chairs is stuffed nightly and a park party is just a kiddles’ picnic unless it’s in a Brooklyn warehouse district. I mean, New York has such fine food that a burrito at a no-name shop in 20-degree Manhattan can beat one from Tucson’s best, and Cuban food in Brooklyn is more authentic than that in Miami (I won’t say Havana… I won’t).

There are negatives in there, too. Somewhere. I’m sure of it. Like, it snows in New York. Sure, it’s not much of a bother, because most people don’t have to drive in it, but it does snow. Yeah. Man, New York…

Let me put it like this. The best thing to do in New York is go to New York and let the city take it from there.

Pros and Cons of Indianapolis, IN

Indianapolis is kind of like a cream-filled donut. It looks bland until you bite into it. Or maybe it’s more like vegan cheesecake, which looks like cheesecake, but is really bland.

I don’t know – whatever it is, it involves some bland stuff, like endless parades of cornfields. But the place has it going when it comes to attracting business conventions.

YEAH, that’s what it’s like! A business convention. And we all know that business conventions, while rather bland around noon, can get quite drunken and party-hard after hours.

Pros and Cons of Boston, MA

Beantown is one of the most educated places on earth. Think Harvard. Think MIT. Think Boston College. And its residents get all the benefits (great healthcare and wild sports) and negatives (pompous attitudes, fake Boston accents) that they could possibly want. And nor’easters for good measure.

Pros and Cons of Tucson, AZ

Ever want to bask in 100-degree heat while eating tamales and counting palm trees? Then Tucson is your type of place. And if that sounds too hot, you can cool off in one of the city’s gorgeous pools, or go for a bike ride on cool Mount Lemmon.

However, if you buy a bike, make sure to lock it with a U-Lock, because bike thefts are big here, and if you are in need of a job, um, well Phoenix is just 100 miles away.

All right, pessimism aside, Tucson is a great place. The best thing to do in Tucson is to find a spot on Frog ‘n’ Firkin’s patio to watch the University of Arizona game, then ride your bike on over to Hotel Congress for a night of dancing.

Pros and Cons of Baltimore, MD

Bawlamer has what we like to call “dichotomy.” It’s a two-faced place, a real dilemma of aspirations. On one hand, it harkens back to its heyday, a time when its brick rowhouses were built and its industry was vibrant. However, that time has long since let the city down. On the other hand, the city is looking forward, renovating the downtown and bringing in jobs by the call center. But everyone agrees those jobs are pretty lame and downtown is no place to be alone at night. I don’t know… where was I going with this?

The Pros and Cons of Moving to Minneapolis, MN

Every city has its benefits, whether it’s low rent, great weather or fun attractions.  The Minneapolis-St.Paul metro is no different.  It is a bustling with the good, the bad and the ugly.  Here are just a couple examples:

  1. Minneapolis has one of the best collections of parks in the nation.
  2. Getting to these parks can be difficult, because public transportation is lacking.
