Pros and Cons of Louisville, KY

Have you ever wanted to watch thoroughbreds run through the mud whilst drinking a Mint Julep? If so, then Louisville might be the place for you.

On the other hand, if you’re hoping to work in the tech industry, say, designing software for a software giant, then you’ll want to focus your attention elsewhere, because Louisville doesn’t cater to that sector.

Pros and Cons of Seattle, WA

Moving to Emerald City? That’s great news. Seattle is one of the best cities in the US for music and culture; it was home to the 90’s alternative music scene, and its music production has continued to grow ever since. That being said, Seattle is a pretty dang dark and rainy place.

Dorms vs Off-Campus Housing

Should you live in the dorms or in an apartment? Are they really that different?

Yes, yes they are. One is more expensive. One is less roomy. One makes it harder to get to class. And one makes it harder to shower in peace.

Learn about the pros and cons of moving into a dorm to decide which option is right for you.

Pros and Cons of Portland, OR

Moving to Portland, eh?  Well, know this before moving to Rose City: it’s got some great things, and it’s got some not-so-great things.  For example, did you know that Portland has a great public transit system?  You don’t even need a car.  However, it’s also one of the rainiest cities in the states.

Which brings me to point #2. The best thing to do in Portland is to wander the downtown avenues, stopping at the local breweries (Deschutes, Bridgeport, Rogue, to name a few) for samplings. Think about brunch at the Pink Rose, too. But do not forget an umbrella!

Pros and Cons of Sacramento, CA

Every city has its positives, whether it’s food, great weather or easy transportation.  Likewise, every city has its negatives.  Even the most admired cities require sacrifices from their residents.

Sacramento has both pros and cons.  It is a busy city filled with the good, the bad and the ugly.  Here are few examples:

Pros

Sunny weather almost year round.

Great theatrical and political scene (state capital of California).

Cons

Many entertainers bypass it for the nearby San Francisco bay area.

Tule fog – a very thick, low-lying fog that drapes the area in the winter.

Things to Do for Moving

Moving requires much more than knee bends and a positive frame of mind. I mean, we’ve written over 250 articles (and counting) on moving, and there are still things that some movers need to do that we haven’t covered.

However, there are some ultra important things to do for moving that outweigh all other considerations. Here are our top 8 things to do for moving:

  1. Sell unused stuff – It’s essential for making your move easier and cutting down on the cost of moving.
  2. Use moving boxes – They are easy to maneuver, cheap and effective.
  3. Start early – Don’t wait until the last minute (i.e. week) to start preparing your move. Rather, get on things at least a month ahead of time.
  4. Background check your movers – Read reviews and try to get some references.
  5. Sign a contract – NEVER hire a moving company of any kind without a good, written contract.
  6. Label – If you take apart furniture, label the parts with tape so you can put it back together. Also label moving boxes with the contents and destination room.
  7. Survey the moving truck – Plan where you will put your stuff in the moving truck before just doing it. Take measurements. If you don’t, you might find that your mattress doesn’t fit.
  8.  – Some days are considerably more expensive to move during than others.
