Throwing Out Medication
Do you have expired meds?
When you’re packing, you’ll probably open a bathroom cupboard and find prescription bottles with everything from pain pills to antibiotics from when you had the flu seven years ago.
Most, if not all, of these medications will probably be expired, but you shouldn’t just throw them in the trash can for a two reasons:
- Health effects – If people end up finding the prescription bottle, they might end up abusing the medication. Worse, if children or animals find it, they might eat it and become seriously harmed.
- Pollution – If you simply toss or flush your medications, they might end up in the community’s water.
The Solution:
To dispose of your medications the right way, dissolve them in water and add them to some sand, dirt or kitty litter. Then place the mixture into a bag and toss it in the trash.
Also, make sure to remove any personal information from the bottle’s label.
