So, you need a moving truck. Or a moving van. Or just a truck. I don’t know, something to move your thing. That big thing, that heavy thing, that it-just-won’t-fit-in-my-car thing.
Renting a moving truck can be a costly affair. Those who don’t think first might end up throwing so much money at U-Haul that they ponder whether buying a used truck would’ve been the better choice.
You need not be one of them. Here are the top 8 ways to find a cheap moving truck:
- Borrow it: get a pick-up truck from a friends, relative, coworker, or neighbor.
- Find a person offering moving help in online classifieds.
- Plan your
trip for the shortest distance possible – don’t get a rental truck from a location 20 miles away.
- Check multiple moving truck companies: U-Haul, Penske, Two Guys and Moving Truck, Ryder, Budget, Atlas, Three Men Moving…
- Sell large items so you can get a smaller truck
- Rent on off-days – rates might be lower mid-week, mid-month.
- Don’t get parking tickets.
- Don’t turn it in late!
- Rent a pick up truck if possible — they’re the cheapest option.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been looking for cheap moving trucks in chicago for a while
Great tips here! I’ve always found Budget Trucks to be the cheapest…especially if you search around the net for a discount promo code. Just my two cents..thanks for sharing!
Budget trucks are cheap and for good reason, they will leave the customer stranded, they will take your reservation when there are no trucks available. The dealer can not notify the customer in advance, they are suppose to let them show up to get there truck and then be told nothing is available.Great customer service!!
